the state of jelapang padi

Cradle of mixed culture

Do you know that Kedah is known as ‘Negeri Padi Jelapang’? We eat rice every day and coming to this museum will give you excellent knowledge about the history of paddy and kedah. The fee for admission is affordable. The souvenir shop sells fun key chains & magnets for the fridge. At a very fair rate, you can also take a picture with a background image of a nice paddy field. A VISIT MUST PLACE if you’re in Kedah. On the way to this museum, enjoy the stunning view of the paddy field and Mount Keriang.

In this part of Kedah, I love visiting Kedah’s Bujang Valley. It is a flourishing trading capital. For me, Kedah was already a destination that was ‘Truly Asia’ until Malaysia became recognised as ‘Truly Asia’.

Location & Nearby Attractions

In Alor Setar (Malaysia), 25 Best Things To Do. The state capital of Kedah is Alor Setar in north-western Malaysia. Sometimes overshadowed by Langkawi Island, its sister, the city receives few tourists. There is a cosmopolitan city surrounded by infinite paddy fields for the handful of intrepid travellers who visit Alor Setar. Add Zahir Mosque, among the finest examples of Islamic architecture in Malaysia, and traditional shophouses that have not changed in decades.

DAYTIME ACTIVITIES

Dominating the city centre is the famous Alor Setar House, which looks like a spacecraft. The oldest fort in North Malaysia and a museum devoted to rice lie a short drive from the capital.
