1. Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm
Location: Jalan Teluk Bahang, Teluk Bahang, 11050 Tanjung Bungah, Pulau Pinang
Entopia is the latest butterfly farm in Penang, a huge glass conservatory where waterfalls, lush tropical greenery, and re-created natural features reside for over 15,000 free-flying butterflies.
There are two major areas of Entopia: Natureland and Cocoon. In addition to wetlands and special areas where snapping turtles, frogs, iguanas, and a variety of large insects live, Natureland is a living garden vivarium that contains the largest butterfly area. Cocoon is the discovery hub for Entopia, where visitors can learn more about butterflies and take part in hands-on experiences.
2. Kek Lok Si Temple
Location: Penang, Air Itam
Kek Lok Si, over a hundred years old and Malaysia’s largest Buddhist temple, is home to a seven-tiered pagoda, over 10,000 Buddha statues, and a 37-meter-high bronze sculpture of Kuan Yin, the benevolent Buddhist Goddess. There are 100 smaller sculptures of the Goddess, each two metres high, around the largest monument, the world’s tallest Kuan Yin monument. The temple is considered a primary destination for pilgrimages, and it draws Buddhists from all over Southeast Asia.
3. Penang National Park
Location: Taman Negara P. Pinang, jalan Hassan Abbas, 11050 George Town, Penang
At only 23 square kilometres, Penang National Park may be one of the smallest in the world, but it also comprises five very distinct ecosystems of over 400 different species of plants. There is also a long strip of seacoast here with pine trees lining up the white powdery sand and marine habitat, in addition to forests and mangroves.
The park is renowned for its many trails that zigzag through the jungle and into landmarks such as the Muka Head lighthouse along the coastline.
