Where to shop in Pulau Pinang
WHERE TO SHOP IN PENANG
We tried to choose bazaars that were distinctive from each other while handpicking the 10 Great Penang Markets, each offering something for every form of traveller. After all, when we are on vacation, we all enjoy markets, since they are the best place to get bargains on local items, from crafts and souvenirs, to local delicacies and treats on the street side.
1. Batu Ferringhi Night Market

The Batu Ferringhi Night Market is an extensive one, extending up to one kilometre and supplying shoppers with 100+ stalls, ideal for travellers looking for variety. 2. Little Penang Street Market
Location: Upper Penang Road, Georgetown
Operation hour: 10am - 5pm (every last Sunday of the month)
The aim of this market is to promote independent , local entrepreneurs and artists, mostly frequented by the island's hip, urban crowd, so most spaces are allotted to up-and - coming vendors. They sell personal antiques, handmade jewellery, homeware and food, and visual artists who, like on-the-spot batik prints, aim to showcase and sell their work. For hourly book reads and popular music and dance events, the market also has dedicated locations.

The Macallum Street Night Market has developed a reputation for selling some of Penang Island 's cheapest finds. The normal selection of basic T-shirts, homeware such as woven bamboo table mats and decorative chopsticks, and bejewelled mobile phone covers can be seen, but almost all is a few ringgit cheaper than other areas around the island.

4. Lorong Kulit Flea Market
Location: 625 Jalan Dato Keramat Georgetown
Operation hour: everyday, 6am – 1pm
The Lorong Kulit Flea Market, mainly because of its thoroughly eccentric and eclectic selection of vendors, holds a rare, unforgettable and unusual place in our hearts. From second-hand books and vinyl albums, to old hunting knives and retro kitchen trays, you can find all here.

If you want to really see how locals live (particularly housewives), buy their daily food and mingle in a friendly business, visit Chowrasta Bazaar. In service since the late 1800s, sellers selling candy, pickled fruits and local fried chips occupy the front portion of the store, and the back of the souk is a wet room devoted to fresh (and sometimes smelly) meats.

7. Cecil Street Market - Lebuh Cecil
Location: Lebuh Cecil, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Operation hour: everyday 7:30am – 7pm
Cecil Street Market is most popular with locals for its wet market, where regular household groceries such as fresh vegetables and meats are available, separated into two parts. This part of the business, to say the least, is full of character. The asam laksa is highly recommended in this dry part of the market, where you can find stalls selling local delicacies.
