WHAT TO DO IN PENANG

3. Penang National Park

Location: Taman Negara P. Pinang, jalan Hassan Abbas, 11050 George Town, Penang

At only 23 square kilometres, Penang National Park may be one of the smallest in the world, but it also comprises five very distinct ecosystems of over 400 different species of plants. There is also a long strip of seacoast here with pine trees lining up the white powdery sand and marine habitat, in addition to forests and mangroves.

The park is renowned for its many trails that zigzag through the jungle and into landmarks such as the Muka Head lighthouse along the coastline.

4. Cheong Fatt Tze – The Blue Mansion

Location: Lebuh Leith, George Town, 10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang

The exterior decorations and indigo-blue external walls of the mansion make it a very distinctive house, and it is often referred to as The Blue Mansion. The mansion, designed at the end of the 19th century by the merchant Cheong Fatt Tze, has 38 rooms, 5 granite paved courtyards, 7 staircases and 220 vernacular timber louvre windows. It served as the private residence of Cheong as well as the seat of his Penang business activities. The mansion is eclectic, but largely represents the chinese architectural styles.

5. Penang Hill

Location: Penang Island

The Penang Hill Railway, which has the world’s steepest tunnel track, was built in 1923 and fully overhauled in 2010, climbs Penang Hill and provides spectacular green open views over the area. Although the initial climb took about 30 minutes, it currently takes between five and 25 minutes, the shortest time without delays, and the longest time if the cable car stops (on request only) at the midway stations on the way to the top.

6. Kapitan Keling Mosque

Location: Jalan Buckingham, George Town, 10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang

The Kapitan Keling Mosque is a mosque in George Town , Penang, Malaysia, founded in the 19th century by Indian Muslim merchants. It is located on the intersection of Pitt Street and Buckingham Street. As a famous Islamic historical hub, it is part of George Town’s World Heritage Site and stands in the hub of the Tamil Muslim neighbourhood of the area, the Chulias. It is the first permanent Muslim institution dating from the early 1800s to have been founded in the region.

7. Penang Little India

Location:  Lebuh Pasar, George Town, 10450 George Town, Pulau Pinang

Little India, in the city of George Town in Malaysia, is an ethnic Indian enclave covering an area around Queen Street, Chulia Street and Market Street. Sri Mahamariamman Temple, the oldest Hindu temple in Penang, is located there. In Chennai, Mumbai or Delhi, this area bears many links to market streets. There are many Indian food restaurants here where you can get the taste of authentic Indian food.

8. Penang Street Art

Location:  Beach Street Georgetown, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang

This is a spot that everybody wanted to come as you can take a lot of pictures of the murals here, and that the arts that highlight here cause you wow, believe me you’re going to be wow, there’s just a few parking places on the other streets to get parking here, where the parking fee is around rm5 per hour. You can take too many photographs here, but you can need to wait for your turn to take pictures if the crowd is there. You should try ice ball ice cream here after walking for a long time.

9. Chew Jetty

Location:  Chew Jetty, Weld Quay, George Town, Pulau Pinang

There is no particular sign board or the way to this chew jetty coz on the restaurant way, we will recommend visiting this wonderful spot, a very nice experience when you stepped on the tree line, the sea view rendered a moment you can not forget. Besides that, there are just a few shops on the jetty where you can buy souvenirs. The attractive aspect was the end of the jetty where you can take so many photographs that you can see the old penang bridge there. Visit during CNY, you will have very nice experience.

 

10. Penang Botanic Gardens

Location: Kompleks Pentadbiran,Bangunan Pavilion, Jalan Kebun Bunga, George Town, Pulau Pinang

A public park located on Jalan Air Terjun in George Town , Penang, Malaysia, is the Penang Botanic Gardens, also known as the “Waterfall Gardens” because of the nearby cascading waterfall. Under the direction of Charles Curtis, who was the first superintendent, the initial gardens were built in 1884 from an old quarry site. Not ideal for picnics or food events since this is a park located next to a nature reserve, meaning there are lots of monkeys around.

3. Farlim Wednesday Night Market

Location: Medan Angsana, Bandar Baru Ayer Itam, 11500 Ayer Itam, Pulau Pinang
Operation hour: Wednesday 5pm – 11pm

Amazing night market, lots of suppliers selling products, not just for food. The food choices were fantastic as it was mainly different from hawker stalls, but if you do want local food, there is a hawker across the street, the taste is very strong everywhere in Penang. Shops, too, are fantastic, with a lot of choice from clothing, food, electronics.

4. Macallum Street Night Market

Location: Lintang Macallum 1, Pengkalan Weld, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Operation hour: Monday, 5pm – 10:30pm

It’s a wonderful sight for the stomach and much more wonderful! You’ll love that the sweet vegetarian gravy is packaged separately because it’s not mushy, many hawker fares like the genuine old school fat PohPiah filled to the full, rolled and sliced to bite sizes. Many local sweets and other stalls selling food from overseas were served. There are a few stalls which also sell household provisions. An amusing place to be.

5. Van Praagh Night Market

Location: Taman Continental, 11600 Jelutong, Penang
Operation hour: Friday, 6pm – 11pm

Penang ‘s largest pasar malam, lots of food stalls and food vans with too many options, but still the same but distinct taste version of the main product overall, such as Taiwan crispy chicken, Tahu Hua and dessert. But you can find unique items, such as stinky Taiwan tofu, Hongkong shark Fin, if you look carefully. Halal Watchout or not (please ask the stall first before you purchase).

6. Kimberley Street Food Night Market

Location: Lrg Batu, Taman Jelutong, 11600 George Town
Operation hour: 5pm – 11pm | closed on Wednesday

This one stands out among the very best Georgetown has to offer in a town jam-packed with excellent food options, particularly night markets. Excellent food choices, like satay, popiah, and all kinds of other dishes, of all shapes and sizes. Bear in mind that you are expected to buy at least one drink from the nearby drink stall if you want to sit at a table to enjoy your meal, as is customary throughout most of Malaysia.

7. Batu Feringghi Night Market

Location: Along Jalan Batu Feringghi
Operation hour: Monday, 5pm – 9pm

As vendors set up stalls along it after dusk, Jalan Batu Feringghi comes alive at night. Batu Feringghi’s night market is Batu Feringghi ‘s biggest tourist attraction, selling everything from bogus luxury bags to dirt-cheap pirated DVDs and home decor pieces to souvenirs.

8. Kek Lok Si Temple

Location: Penang, Air Itam

You can return during the day, but it somehow lacks the mysterious spark that makes it so special because many locals stop for nightly prayers, with the smell of incense scenting the air and candles burning at the altars. Spread over 10 acres, it is lit up at night, offering you plenty of possibilities for ideal postcard shots.
