TEA TIME

Malacca may be popular for its Nyonya fare but the choice of cuisine doesn’t just end there at Jonker Lane. We have identified ten favourite eateries that are both sufficient and moderately priced, from chicken rice balls (the state’s unofficial signature dish) to juicy burgers.

1. Perhentian Kuih Kampung (Kueh Kampong)

Location: 213, Jalan Ujong Pasir, 75050 Melaka
Operation hour: everyday 9am – 7pm

Perhentian Kuih Kampung or also known as “Kedai Bawah Pokok” because the presence of a large angsana tree is an interesting dining destination to visit if you want to indulge your sense of taste with a variety of delicious traditional cakes. Not only cakes of Malacca, but also delicacies from other states or generally traditional Malay cakes are a favorite of many. In addition to cakes, other foods are also offered such as chicken golek, spicy sour, hailam noodles, curry noodles and more.

2. Bikini Toppings

Location: 46, Lorong Hang Jebat, 75200 Malacca City, Malaysia
Operation hour: 10am-6pm, 10am-3pm (Thursday), closed on Saturday

Ice Cream (RM6.90). If you’re in need of cooling refreshment after pounding the pavements of Melacca, Bikini Toppings will provide a welcome break. Serving an array of ice creams that come served in a coconut alongside refreshing coconut shakes, this is exactly what’s in order on a hot day.

We opted for a scoop of yam, a scoop of chendol and a garnish of fresh lychee, though there are numerous other ice cream flavours and toppings to choose from. We couldn’t resist joining in with the ‘graffiti’ on the chalkboard walls whilst we were there. Let us know if you go and spot our tag!
