WHERE TO SHOP IN SABAH

Borneo blends geological diversity, biodiversity, and cultural communities living on the third-largest island in the world. The best souvenirs from Borneo are here, from local pearls and musical instruments to handwoven baskets

1. Central Market

Location: Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, Kota Kinabalu
Operation hour: everyday 6:30am – 6pm

Hold along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, the Central Market of Kota Kinabalu is much like its counterpart in Kuala Lumpur. Occupying a strip of waterfront real estate in the centre of town, this souk has suppliers selling a range of goods like local produce, with decent value-for – money meals in the stalls selling nasi campur.

Continue to explore local crafts at the Filipino Market on the waterfront which is nerby. A treasure chest of hats, dresses and other local crafts is inside.

2. Handicraft Market

Location: Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, Kota Kinabalu
Operation hour: everyday 8am – 9pm

This bazaar is the best place to get mass-produced souvenirs, often inexpensive, including jewellery, bamboo products, pearls, seashell crafts and textiles, sandwiched between the Night Market and Central Market in Kota Kinabalu. As you’ll find more offers than the advertised sticker rates, make sure to negotiate.
